A Legacy Brand in Fire Protection Since 1951
Sierra Fire Equipment has a long and distinguished history in the fire protection industry. The company was originally founded in 1951 near downtown Los Angeles by N.L. Smith and Harry Halprin to provide interior and industrial fire equipment to fire extinguisher dealers and contractors in Southern California.
Over the next four decades, Sierra grew to become one of the largest providers of fire equipment in the Western United States.

During the construction boom of the 1950s and 1960s, the company grew quickly. In 1977, the western division of Standard Fire Hose Co. was acquired from Zurn Industries. Just two years later, in 1979, Sierra — along with its companion operation Halprin Supply Company — was sold to a group of investors.
Industry practices began to shift in the 1980s. Changes to contractor licensing, building codes, and distribution models led management to scale back operations in the early 1990s. The company was officially dissolved in 1997.
